Faversham Residence

Located in Canterbury, Melbourne, this interior soft furnishing project seeks to extend the architectural narrative of a contemporary residence by Webster Architecture and Mazzei Home. Rooted in a monochrome palette, the architecture provides a calm, restrained canvas. The design goal is to infuse the space with warmth and character through a carefully curated mix of textures, finishes, and bespoke furniture pieces, softening the formality of the architecture while honouring its modernist precision.

To balance the cool minimalism of the base palette, the design introduces warmth through materiality and tonal layering. Timber, textiles, leather, and brushed metals are thoughtfully combined to bring tactile richness and emotional depth to the space. This layered approach softens the architectural formality, fostering a sense of relaxed luxury while maintaining clarity and precision.

Designed for a young family of five, the project responds to both lifestyle and longevity. Soft-edged furniture, durable finishes, and functional layouts ensure comfort, safety, and ease of use in daily living. Within this framework, selected signature pieces from Simon James, Faye Toogood, Sarah Ellison, and Muuto are integrated to elevate the interior, balancing high design with accessible elements to create a timeless environment that feels both refined and genuinely livable.

The landscape extends seamlessly into the interior, where filtered greenery, natural light, and shifting shadows create a calm and immersive atmosphere. Full-height glazing draws the garden inward, allowing sunlight to animate the restrained palette while softening the boundary between inside and out, resulting in a cohesive environment defined by light, texture, and quiet continuity. This connection enhances the spatial experience, bringing a sense of openness, softness, and everyday livability to the home.
